The Advantage Arms .22LR Conversion Kit for the Glock Gen 4: A Rare Find That's Truly Worth the Hunt
I searched far and wide for a Glock Gen 4 conversion kit suitable for my Glock 34, and to my surprise, it was tucked away at The Georgia Gun Store in Gainesville, GA. Being a longtime 22LR enthusiast, I've recently embraced the excitement of using .22LR conversion kits on my centerfire pistols. I already own a Kimber .22LR kit for my 1911’s, a Sig Sauer kit for my Sig P226, and now I’ve added the Advantage Arms kit to my Glock 34 Gen 4 collection. Each conversion kit I've used is of exceptional quality and reliability. I've fired hundreds of rounds through them, mostly with high velocity ammo, and they’ve performed flawlessly. My advice is to stick with high velocity loads, which aren’t necessarily the priciest, and they work perfectly. The Advantage Arms kit for my Glock 9mm arrived ready for immediate use in an impeccably fitted case. The fit and finish of the kit are outstanding—the slide is constructed from aluminum with a matte black finish, while the steel components are heat treated and finished in Black Oxide. The barrel is crafted from heat treated 416 Stainless Steel. It includes one 10-round magazine, a cleaning kit, and a loading tool, though the magazine loads easily on its own. Plus, it comes with a one-year factory warranty. Advantage Arms recommends using CCI or Remington Golden Bullets for optimal performance. Since Remington ammo is more budget-friendly compared to CCI, I started with Remington Golden from Big Green. After firing about 50 rounds with no malfunctions, I tested accuracy with a 10-round burst at 10 yards, and every shot was tightly grouped—coverable by just a quarter. I later cycled through various Winchesters, CCI rounds, and even used a couple of magazines of 10-year-old Federal SpitFire hyperloads (at only $1.71 each), all without issue. A key point to remember is that Advantage Arms offers multiple versions of their conversion kits tailored to different Glock generations and calibers. Their website provides a helpful chart to ensure you select the correct kit for your firearm. Note that the kits for Gen 4 Glocks differ from those for Gen 1-3 and are not interchangeable—the Gen 4 kits have the model and generation clearly marked on the slide. Additionally, Advantage Arms produces .22LR kits for 1911-style pistols. My kit even includes Glock adjustable sights, which were spot-on right out of the box—I haven’t even needed to adjust them. While different ammunition might affect point of impact slightly (and target shooters might appreciate the adjustability), my primary use is for IDPA practice where I only need pinpoint accuracy at 20 yards. The polished barrel is also a standout feature; I’m considering polishing my 9mm barrel to match. The best aspect of these .22LR conversion kits is that they preserve all the original controls and functions of the Glock centerfire. The frame remains intact, the slide locks back after the last round, the magazine feels familiar, and the recoil is just enough to simulate real shooting practice.
