We use a proprietary Barrel nut for installation: The Scout Carbon Pro Free Floats are lighter than even the lightest aluminum quad-rail hand guards on the market.They are tougher that steel yet Ultra light weight and resist heat, keeping your hand cooler than conventional Handguards. The Scout Carbon Pro uses a modular rail system so you can position the detachable rails where you want and remove them where you don't. The Scout Carbon Pro is easy to install: Utilizing our gen 3 Barrel nut see the installation video for more details. CTS Ultra Carbon Fiber Free Float Hand Guard for Gas Piston AR
Recent purchased the CTS Carbon fiber free float hand guard for a 11.5 SBR project that uses an Osprey gas piston. BTW, the Osprey gas piston is a great system but your hand guard selection is limited. The 9.5 CTS hand guard will work with a 11.5" free floated barrel but you'll have to take the rearmost two top rail screw backs (there are three screws for the top rail on the handguard) off in order to get just enough clearance for the piston to move freely. Then you put the rail back on with the one front screw and use epoxy to secure the whole thing. It sounds screwy but when you think about it the carbon fiber is put together with epoxy and as it will only get harder with time and heat. Your next best option for a free float rail is twice as expensive and three times heavier and this one looks fabulous!

As advertised...barrel nut is heavy though, so are all the rails if used. Kept rail to min. Used diff barrel nut...golden!

This is my second build with these. Compared to keymod systems, these are far superior in the temperature category. I don't need to wear gloves to run the gun hard.

carbon fiber hand guard install is great
Recently built a complete upper with the CTS carbon fiber hand guard. Install was quick over the standard AR barrel nut. It looks great, especially with the enclosed end. Indexing the top rail was a non-issue to provide the continuous picaitnny from receiver forward. Other rail sections can be moved to desired locations for attaching accessories at 3, 6, or 9 clock positions anywhere on the rail length. For carbon fiber, the price can't be beat.

Little rough but good value.
Purchased 3 of these & 3 of the 9.5" ones. These had the tube mounting screws in 3 locations (not so good), the 9.5" model has 5 of them (much, much better). That is the wrong way to cut manufacturing costs! They are a little rough but a good value for the money! Cobra still can't provide the 15" model they advertise.
