The 1-oz hollow-base lead slug at 1,560 fps delivers 2,363 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and produces acceptable 4-5 inch groups at 50 yards from standard cylinder-bore and improved-cylinder choked barrels with iron sights, which is more than adequate for ethical deer hunting at the ranges where smoothbore slug guns shine. The tapered base and pre-formed rifling grooves provide spin stabilization, and the soft lead nose deforms reliably on impact for good energy transfer to game.
